Confession time! When I ask someone that infamous question “What do you do for a living” and they pull out their business card from their pocket I judge them. I mean how tacky is it to pull out your business card straight from your pocket? It totally looks more professional when you have a cardholder (at least in my opinion). If you are handing out your card to someone, you obviously want to make a good impression. Just imagine how awesome you would look when you pull out this super cute business card holder! This adorable cardholder can be made with regular quilting cotton or duck material (canvas). For this particular one, I made it out of scraps so it cost me nothing out of pocket (woo-hoo).

What You Need!
- Lightweight Batting
- Quilting Cotton
- Lightweight Fusible Interfacing
- Pearl Snap Fastener
- Matching Thread

FYI!
All sewing is done with a 1/4 inch seam allowance.
Important Info!
When printing the sewing pattern PDF make sure to adjust the print settings. After you click on the print button in the PDF the printer dialog box will come up. On this screen you want to change the default zoom page size to be Actual Size. If you don’t change this setting then the pattern will print smaller then intended (so sad!).
What To Do!
Iron interfacing on one piece of the tab. I know you probably know this but make sure that you have the shiny part of the interfacing facing down before ironing. Trust me interfacing glue is not the easiest to get off your iron!
With right sides facing each other pin the tab pieces together.
Sew a curve at the top of the tab. You could just freestyle sew this curve or you could use a cup and draw an arc to follow with your sewing machine. Once you finish sewing cut away the excess fabric around curve to cut down on the bulk.
Then turn the tab right side out. I use a plastic chop stick which works amazingly well for turning!
Press finished tab with iron.
On to the pockets! Take the pocket pieces and fold in half wrong sides together making the 4 3/4 inch sides touch each other. Then press with iron.
Then open up the pocket pieces and add the interfacing piece you cut. I like to trim up my interfacing pieces to help reduce bulk around the edges because I don’t have a walking foot (sad sigh). Make sure that you put the interfacing all the way into the crease of the folded pocket. Press interfacing with iron.
Once you have added your interfacing sew a straight stitch down the folded edge of both pockets.
Iron the interfacing onto the wrong side of the inside piece of fabric. Lay the inside piece of fabric right side up and position the two pockets on top. Make sure the folded edge of pockets are facing each other.
Then pin tab in the center of the pocket on the right side of the business card holder. This is the time to decide how long you want your tab to be. I decided I wanted my tab to be on the shorter side so that’s why there is so much of the tab overhanging the fabric.
Lay the outside fabric right side down on top of the other pieces.
The last piece of this fabric sandwich is the batting.
Make sure when you pin that you are going through all of the layers including the pockets. Mark where you will leave an opening to turn the holder after you sew (see yellow pins below). Also make sure to move the the pin from the tab to the top of the sandwich so you don’t accidentally run it over with your machine.
Sew around the entire holder making sure to leave an opening for turning. After you remove from machine cut away some of the batting from where you left the turning hole. Trim seam edges of the holder to reduce bulk.
Then turn the holder right side out taking care to not rip the seam on each side of the turning hole. The plastic chop stick comes in real handy here!
Once your holder is turned right side out use the chop stick and make sure all of the corners are pushed out. Press with iron.
Fold business card holder in half and decided where you want your pearl snap to go.
Take a small piece of interfacing and slip it into the turning hole where the pearl snap will go and press with iron. This will reinforce the material so it can withstand the snap pulling on the fabric.
Add the bottom piece of the snap where you just put the interfacing. Attach the snap using the directions on the back of the package.
Then attach the top part of the pearl snap to the tab and test out to make sure that they are in the right position. FYI pearl snaps can be taken off if they are put in the wrong spot but they are a total pain to get off! So make sure that you measure several times before attaching the snap to ensure you don’t have to move them.
Once your snaps are in place turn under your turning hole and press with iron. Pin the opening closed.
Then starting at your pin at the turning hole sew around the entire business card holder using a straight stitch.
After that, all that is left is to add your business cards and start looking super snazzy as you hand them out!
And….now I will stop judging you!
