So, I’m forever misplacing my camera lens cap! As hard as I try I always seem to not really pay attention where I have laid that little guy! So, needless to say I spend too much time going on a lens cap hunt instead of focusing on taking cute photos (pun intended). This totally frustrates me but I’ve never really put much thought into a solution to keep my lens cap from running away.
While I was planning a trip I was thinking of everything that I needed to bring to take photos on my adventures. I started to think what was I going to do about losing the lens cap EVERY time I use my camera. Then it hit me! I would sew a super cute (obviously) and functional camera lens cap holder pouch to put on my camera strap! After I had giggled like a little girl I started designing and the below lens cap holder pouch was born (my lens cap rejoices). Now that little guy won’t be able to get away so easily!

Important Info!
When printing the sewing pattern PDF make sure to adjust the print settings. After you click on the print button in the PDF the printer dialog box will come up. On this screen you want to change the default zoom page size to be Actual Size. If you don’t change this setting then the pattern will print smaller then intended (so sad!).
What To Do!
To begin the camera lens cap holder pouch you need to download the free pattern from The Pattern Stash and cut it out.
Then press the fusible interfacing to the wrong side of both of the outside pieces.
Next, take the back sleeve and fold it in half right sides together making the 2 3/4 inch sides touch.
Then sew along the long edge of the back sleeve piece.
Next, sew one of the short ends closed. Do not sew the other short end as this will be the turning hole.
Then turn the back sleeve right side out using the turning hole.
Next, press under the short side that you left open and pin. You want to make sure you really press this because it will make it so much easier to sew.
Then take one of the outside pieces and pin the back sleeve to the center on the right side of the fabric. Notice that the short sides of the back sleeve are facing the right and left sides of the outside piece.
Next, sew down both short sides super close to the edge of the back sleeve. You want to sew over them a couple of times to ensure they are secure.
Then STOP! Take your camera strap and feed it through the back sleeve to make sure it fits.
Next, cut a 1 1/4 inch long piece of Velcro. Then place one side of the Velcro in the center of the other outside piece 1/2 inch down from the top edge on the right side of the fabric. Sew the Velcro down securely.
Then take one of the tab pieces and press the interfacing to the wrong side of the fabric.
Next, take the tab piece and place the other side of the Velcro in the center and 1/2 inch down from the top edge. Sew around the Velcro.
Then lay the other side of the tab on top of the Velcro side with right sides together and pin.
Next, sew around the tab leaving the bottom of the tab open for turning. Make sure that the top of your tab is the side that the Velcro is closer to the edge.
Next, flip the tab right side out using the turning hole and press.
Then take the outside piece that has the back sleeve sewn to it and lay it right side up. Place the completed tab in the center at the top edge and pin. MAKE SURE the Velcro is facing up when you pin your tab or your camera lens cap holder pouch will not close.
Next, lay one of the lining pieces on top with right sides of fabric facing each other. Then sew along the top edge making sure to reinforce where the tab it located.
Then take the other outside piece that has the Velcro on it and lay the other lining piece on it with right sides together. Sew along the top edge using a straight stitch.
After you have sewn both outside pieces to the lining pieces press open.
Next, place the two sewn pieces on top of each other with right sides facing. Make sure to line up the two center seam lines where the tab is sewn. This will make sure your sides line up when the camera lens cap holder is finished.
Then pin around the entire outside leaving a 1 1/2 inch turning hole in the bottom of the lining.
Next, sew around entire edge of the camera lens cap holder pouch.
Then trim your edges and turn right side out through your turning hole.
Next, press and turn under the fabric of the turning hole in the lining.
Then sew the turning hole closed using matching thread.
Next, push the lining inside the camera lens holder pouch and press again. Make sure to NOT hit the Velcro with your iron, trust me I speak from personal experience!
Then you are ready to add your camera lens to it’s new home!
All that is left to do is slap this bad boy onto your camera strap and feel relieved that you no longer have to wonder where your camera lens cap has run off to!
Isn’t this a super cute and easy way to keep track of your lens cap? I’m so excited that I now don’t have to stress about losing part of my camera and can just enjoy taking photos!
