Wristlets are so handy! I love using a wristlet anytime that I’m just running a few errands or going to a party. However, one thing I don’t like is when I put my cell phone into the wristlet that I have to dig it out every time I want to check it! I don’t know about you but this annoys me! So, I started to think about how I could remedy this problem.
I did some research online and was SO excited to find out that certain vinyls allow you to use your phone through them! I was so jazzed about this that I instantly started to design a wristlet with a vinyl front pocket. And the result is this amazing cell phone wristlet purse! This super cute cell phone wristlet purse makes checking your messages so easy while never having to take your phone out of the purse. So, if you’re ready to make your own cell phone wristlet purse and make your life a little bit easier then let’s begin!

FYI! Only have zippers that are longer than 9 or 14 inches? No worries! As long as one zipper is 9 inches or longer and one is 14 inches or longer you can use it because we will cut the zipper down to the correct size.
FYI!
All sewing is done with a 1/4 inch seam allowance unless stated otherwise.
Important Info!
When printing the sewing pattern PDF make sure to adjust the print settings. After you click on the print button in the PDF the printer dialog box will come up. On this screen you want to change the default zoom page size to be Actual Size. If you don’t change this setting then the pattern will print smaller than intended (so sad!).

What To Do!
Make The Wristlet Strap
To begin the cell phone wristlet purse you need to download the FREE pattern from The Pattern Stash and cut it out. Take the wristlet strap and press in half lengthwise wrong sides together.
Open the wristlet strap and press the two sides into the middle and press.
Next, fold your wristlet strap back together and press really well.

Then take the swivel hook and slide it onto the wristlet strap.
Next, fold the wristlet strap in half.
Then open the bottoms of both sides of the wristlet strap and clip them together right sides touching.
Next, sew across the end of the wristlet strap. I like to go over this a few times with my machine.
Then open the seam and press with the iron.
Next, fold the wristlet strap back together and press really well. Take wonder clips and clip all the way around the wristlet strap.

Next, topstitch the other side of the wristlet strap.
Then move your swivel hook to the end where the seam of the wristlet strap is and clip.
Next, sew across the wristlet strap as close to the swivel hook as you can get. Don’t get too close or your needle will hit it and break! Go over this a couple of times with your machine and your wristlet strap is complete!
Make Strap Tab
Then take the strap tab and press it in half lengthwise wrong sides together.
Next, open the strap tab and press the two sides to the center line.
Then close the strap tab back together and press.
Next, sew a topstitch down both sides of the strap tab. The strap tab is complete and you can set it aside while we make the front pocket.

Then take the Front Panel #2 Fabric A and lay it right side down.
Clip all three pieces together at the top.
Then sew across the top of the pieces making sure to backstitch at beginning and end. If you notice any pull in the fabric while sewing use a longer stitch length on your machine.
Next, press your Fabric A & Fabric B pieces wrong sides together. Make sure you don’t touch the vinyl with your iron! Use wax paper on top of the vinyl so the heat doesn’t melt it.
Then topstitch across the edge very close to the vinyl leaving the raw edges open. If you’re having a hard time getting your machine to feed the vinyl use wax paper under and over the vinyl to help it glide across your machine arm.

Next, lay Fabric A Front Panel #3 on top of the vinyl.
Then clip all the fabrics together using Wonder Clips. DON’T use needles in the vinyl because they will leave holes.
Next, sew across the top edge.
Then open the Fabric A & Fabric B pieces and press the wrong sides together.

Next, using a zipper foot sew across zipper edge.

Next, cut off the excess tab fabric making sure to cut along the side of the zipper tape and not actually cutting the zipper.
Then using a ruler measure your zipper to 9 1/4 inches including the zipper tab you just added. Open your zipper to the 6 inch mark and then cut your zipper to measure 9 1/4 inches. Make sure to NOT use your sewing scissors to cut the zipper or you could ruin your good scissors!
Next, press your next zipper tab and insert the cut side of the zipper into the tab. Place the zipper sides as close as possible to each other but don’t let them overlap.
Then once you’ve sewn across the seam several times you can cut off the excess of the zipper tab fabric.

FYI! Did you know you can get a printer friendly PDF of the cell phone wristlet purse tutorial that prints without ads? Just head over to The It’s So Corinney Shop and check it out!
Then open your zipper to the middle of the wristlet. Trust me if you don’t you will make quick friends with your seam ripper!
Next, lay your outside pieces right sides together.
Then lay the lining pieces right sides together.
Next clip around the entire outside seam. Sew around the cell phone wristlet purse leaving a 4 inch turning hole in the bottom edge of the lining. Now make sure that when you get to the zipper tabs you DO NOT sew through the zipper tabs. You should sew right beside the zipper tabs but not through them to make sure they sit right when the wristlet is finished.
Then after you have sewn the entire outside seam clip the edges. On to turning it right side out! Gently push the wristlet through the turning hole in the lining. Make sure to be super gentle with the vinyl so you don’t make creases in the vinyl that you might not be able to get out.
Next, push the lining into the wristlet and press your wristlet really well with the iron avoiding the vinyl.
