My sister absolutely LOVES cacti. She has clothes and jewelry with cute cacti on them! So, recently when it came time for me to gift her something I thought I should give her a cactus. However, after looking at several stores at some really cute cacti I realized that I wasn’t really sure if my sister wanted something that she had to care for.
That was the moment it hit me! I could totally crochet her a cactus that would NEVER die and look super cute. This led me to a trial and error process of creating a cactus that looked the right shape! After several total epic fails, I found the perfect shape. I’m so excited to share this pattern with you so you too can make an easy-to-care-for cactus! And…if you know someone who loves plants then this is the perfect gift for them!

FYI!
- The parts of the crochet potted cactus are crocheted in the round. This means that you don’t join the end of the round with a slip stitch and insert the first stitch of the next round into the first stitch from the last round.
Stitches Used!
- Single Crochet ~ Insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull through the stitch, yarn over and pull through the two loops on hook.
- Increase ~ Insert two single crochet into one single crochet from last round.
- Front Loop Only ~ Instead of inserting your hook through the entire stitch you will insert your hook just under the front loop of the stitch. Then you will complete the stitch as usual.
- Back Loop Only ~ Instead of inserting your hook through the entire stitch you will insert your hook just through the back loop of the stitch. Then you will complete the stitch as usual.
- Slip Stitch ~ Insert hook into the stitch, yarn over then pull through the stitch and the loop on hook.
- Front Post Half Double Crochet ~ Yarn over, insert hook around the post of the next stitch (insert your hook through the side of the stitch to the back of the work, then bring your hook around the stitch and back out the other side of the stitch to the front), yarn over then pull through around the post you now have 3 loops on hook. Yarn over and pull through all three loops on hook.
- Invisible Decrease ~ Insert hook into the first single crochet’s front loop, then insert hook into the second single crochet’s front loop, yarn over then pull through both front loops, yarn over then pull through the two loops on hook.

- Next, insert your needle back into the soil through the same stitch you just came up from.
- Then continue sewing the cactus to the soil until you get to the last bottom stitch of the cactus.
- Next, we are going to sew the soil to the pot. Roll the rim of the pot down so it’s out of your way.
- Then insert your yarn needle into the first back loop stitch from round 12.
- Next, sew up through the first stitch of the soil. Then continue sewing the soil to the pot through the back loops in the pot and the outside stitches of the soil. Make sure that you are not accidentally sewing through your cactus while you do this!
- Next, when you get about 2 inches from where you started you need to stuff your pot. Make sure to not overstuff the pot otherwise it’ll never sit flat.
- After stuffing, finish sewing the soil to the pot then fasten off and hide your yarn tail inside the pot.
- Then after you’re finished sewing the soil to the pot you can roll the pot’s rim back up!
- Next, you can sew the super cute flower to the top of the cactus using its long tail. There is no specific place to sew the flower, just put it where you think it looks cute!
Then you’re done! Now you can go show off super cute cactus!
So, don’t you think the crochet potted cactus amigurumi is just too cute? And… the best part is that my sister will never have to worry about watering it! The crochet potted cactus amigurumi is so easy to crochet and would make an AMAZING gift for the plant lover in your life!
