I love carrying a purse with all my junk in it! However, there are situations where carrying a purse really isn’t the best idea. You know the times when less is more and all you need to carry is just the very essentials. I can think of tons of situations like concerts, a night on the town, and so many others when a wristlet is the best choice!
Recently, I had a no purse situation come up when I spent a lot of time at the hospital with a family member that was having her baby. When I was planning what I needed to bring to the hospital I decided a backpack full of my snacks and crochet projects was the perfect idea! Since I didn’t want to bring my purse also, I used a wristlet that I made like a hundred years ago. So, when I ran to the store or cafeteria I only had to grab the wristlet! Although the wristlet was super handy, I started to think that it was probably time to design and make a new wristlet! So, I thought how cute would a double pocket wristlet purse be that looked like the Zippered Coin Purse? Turns out super cute!

Important Info!
When printing the sewing pattern PDF make sure to adjust the print settings. After you click on the print button in the PDF the printer dialog box will come up. On this screen you want to change the default zoom page size to be Actual Size. If you don’t change this setting then the pattern will print smaller then intended (so sad!).
What To Do!
Make Tab!
To begin the double pocket wristlet purse you need to download the free pattern from The Pattern Stash and cut it out. Then press the fusible interfacing to the wrong side of one of the tab pieces.
Next, lay both pieces of the tab right sides together and clip.

Then sew the tab together leaving the bottom open for turning. You will make a rounded top as you sew the tab. A simple trick to make the rounded top easier is to trace out the shape in disappearing ink on the wrong side of one of the tab pieces before sewing.
Next, turn the tab right side out through the bottom that you left open.
Then after you have pushed out all of the seams (a chopstick works really well for that) press the tab.
Make Outside Pocket!
Next, take your outside pocket binding and press in half lengthways with wrong sides together.
Next, take the two sides and press them in to the middle where the last press mark is. Be super careful to not burn yourself with the iron!
Then close up your binding and press again.

Next, you will press the fusible interfacing to the wrong side of Fabric A of the outside pocket.
Then take the Fabric B and Fabric A of the outside pocket and place them with WRONG sides together.
Then open your cute binding and pin to the top of the lining side of the outside pocket.
Next, sew across the top of the outside pocket.
Then fold the binding back up towards the seam of the outside pocket. Use the press marks to help you place the binding.
Next, fold the binding over to the front of the outside pocket. Clip the binding making sure to catch both front and back sides of the binding with your clip.
Next, from the front side of the pocket sew really close to edge of the binding. Make sure that your edge stitch is sewing both front and back binding.

Then take both of your Fabric A outside pieces and press the fusible fleece to the wrong side. Set one of the outside pieces to the side.
Next, take one of the Fabric A outside pieces and clip the outside pocket to the bottom of it.
Then stay stitch the outside pocket to the right side of the fabric of the outside piece. You will stay stitch down both sides and across the bottom of the outside pocket. Make sure to sew really close to the edge so you won’t see the stitches in your finished double pocket wristlet purse.
Next, take your cute tab and pin/clip it to the center of the outside piece.
Sew Zipper End Tabs!
To begin the zipper end tabs press the end tab in half with wrong sides together.
Then open the end tab and press the two sides toward the middle crease line and press.
Next, close the end tab again and press really well.
Then take your zipper and slip the end tab onto the end of the zipper. I like to start with the side of the zipper with the metal end piece.
Next, clip the end tab onto the zipper end.
Then carefully sew down the end tab. Make sure to NOT hit the metal piece of the zipper with your needle!
Next, take your scissors and trim the end tab sides even with the zipper.

Then measure and cut your zipper to be 8 1/4 inches long. Make sure to slide the zipper pull down before you cut the end off!
Next, take your other zipper end tab and clip it to the end of the zipper you just cut.
Then sew the end tab and trim both sides to be even with the zipper sides.
Make Strap Tab
To begin the strap tab fold the strap tab in half with wrong sides together and press.
Next, open the strap tab and press the two side pieces to the center of the strap tab.
Then close the strap tab and press really well.
Next, top stitch down both sides of the strap tab and set it aside.
Make Divider Pocket
To begin the divider pocket press the divider pocket in half with wrong sides together.
Next, press the interfacing onto one wrong side of the divider pocket at the center fold.
Then close the divider pocket back together and top stitch twice on the folded side of the pocket. I sewed the first top stitch really close to the edge then the second one 1/4 inch down from the first top stitching.
Next, clip and sew the divider pocket to the bottom of one of the lining pieces. You want to sew the divider pocket onto the right side of the lining super close to the edge down both sides and the bottom.
Make The Wristlet Body!
Next, clip the zipper face down with the pull facing towards the left in the center of the outside piece that has the pocket. FYI! The zipper ends won’t reach all the way to the edge seam and that’s the way it should be!
Then lay the lining piece that DOES NOT have the divider pocket right side down on top of the zipper. Sew across the top using a zipper foot making sure to go over the tab several times.
Next, lay down the other outside piece right side up. Place the front piece in the center of the back piece with right sides together.
Then lay the lining piece with the divider pocket on top of the zipper. Clip all of the layers really well so they don’t shift while sewing! Sew across the top of the zipper with the zipper foot.

Next, take your wristlet strap tab and slip on the D ring and fold in half. Clip the strap tab onto the front of the outside even with the outside pocket binding.
OPEN zipper half way before you continue! If you don’t you’ll become fast friends with your seam ripper! After opening the zipper place the outside pieces right side together and clip. Then place the lining pieces right side together and clip. You want to sew all the way around both the outside and lining but leave a turning hole in the lining (I have my turning hole location marked with the purple clips). As you pass the zipper end tabs you should sew right beside them. If you are sewing through the zipper end tabs then you need to use a smaller seam allowance.
Then trim all of the seams and turn the double pocket wristlet purse right side out through the turning hole in the lining.
Next, push out all the seams of the wristlet and check that everything looks great! Press the turning hole and sew it closed going over it a couple times.
Next, using the instructions on the package add the pearl snap to the tab and the outside pocket.
Make Wristlet Strap!
To begin the wristlet strap fold the strap piece in half lengthways and press.

Then open the strap and press the two sides toward the center crease line and press.
Next, close the strap and press REALLY well.
Then slip the swivel hook onto the wristlet strap.
Next, open the two ends of the strap and clip them right sides together. Make sure that you don’t have the strap twisted before you sew.
Then sew the two sides of the strap and then finger press open the seam.

Next, fold the wristlet strap back together and press really well. Then clip the strap closed.
Next, sew down both sides of the wristlet strap. As you sew the strap make sure to keep moving the swivel hook down out of the way.
Then move the seam to under the swivel hook and clip.
Next, sew across the strap making sure to NOT hit the hook.

I just made this using canvas fabric, and will have to redo it without using interface on the outside pieces, Some may have to adjust the pattern directions for the zipper, not using the zipper pull fabric. I found it very difficult to sew thru all the layers using a quarter inch seam. Upsizing the SA would be more beneficial then cutting down the seam prior to turning. (You will need to add to the overall dimension of the fabric piece to accommodate this larger seam allowance).
Also, taking note of the pattern supplies needed- it states you need 2 9” zippers, but only one zipper is used.
Otherwise, the pattern, and finished item is cute. Thank you
I’m so glad you like the pattern! Thanks for bringing the supply list error to my attention I’ve changed it on the post!
