As summer approaches I’ve been thinking about all of the places that I want to visit! I once read a travel article that suggested that you explore the city you live in like you’re a tourist. The article stated that most people have no clue what amazing things are super close to their everyday life. This made me really stop and think about all of the really cool things to do in Texas that to be honest I’ve NEVER done (shakes head). So, this year my sister and I have committed to finding really neat attractions that are close to home so we can do day trips!
When I plan for the above mentioned day trips I like to pack light. This means transferring my giant everyday purse to a small backpack. So, as I try to carry less in the backpack I find it super easy to use a small coin purse instead of a full wallet. As I was thinking about all of the amazing day trips we have planned I thought that maybe it was time for a new coin purse! Don’t get me wrong, the Zippered Coin Purse that I made is still super cute (and a highly requested gift) but I wanted something with two pockets. So, I went to the drawing board and created a new double pocket zippered coin purse that you are simply going to adore!

FYI!
- All sewing is done with a 1/4 inch seam allowance.
- Any size zipper length will work for this pattern as long as it’s longer than 7 inches. As you will see below my zippers were way longer than the suggested 7 inches.
Important Info!
When printing the sewing pattern PDF make sure to adjust the print settings. After you click on the print button in the PDF the printer dialog box will come up. On this screen you want to change the default zoom page size to be Actual Size. If you don’t change this setting then the pattern will print smaller then intended (so sad!).
What To Do!
Make Tab!
To begin the double pocket zippered coin purse you need to download the free pattern from The Pattern Stash and cut it out. Then press the fusible interfacing to the wrong side of one of the tab pieces.
Next, lay both pieces of the tab right sides together and pin.

Then sew the tab together leaving the bottom open for turning. You will make a rounded top as you sew the tab. A simple trick to make the rounded top easier is to trace out the shape in disappearing ink on the wrong side of one of the tab pieces before sewing.
Next, turn the tab right side out through the bottom that you left open.
Then after you have pushed out all of the seams (a chopstick works really well for that) press the tab.
Make Outside Pocket!
Next, take your outside pocket binding and press in half lengthwise.
Then you are going to open the pressed binding.
Next, take the two sides and press them in to the middle where the last press mark is. Be super careful to not burn yourself with the iron!
Then close up your binding and press again. Look you just made your own binding!

Next, you will press the fusible interfacing to the wrong side of Fabric A of the outside pocket.
Then take the Fabric B and Fabric A of the outside pocket and place them with WRONG sides together.
Then open your cute binding and pin to the top of outside pocket.
Next, sew across the top of the outside pocket.
Then fold the binding back up towards the seam of the outside pocket. Use the press marks to help you place the binding.
Next, fold the binding over to the backside of the zippered coin purse. Pin the binding making sure to catch both front and back sides of the binding with your needle.
Next, flip the pocket to the front side and sew really close to edge of the binding. Make sure that your edge stitch is sewing both front and back binding. If your binding gets a little wonky at the edge of the pocket then just trim it off to be even with the pocket piece.

Then take one of the Fabric A main body pieces and stay stitch the outside pocket to the right side of the fabric. You will stay stitch down both sides and across the bottom of the outside pocket. Make sure to sew really close to the edge so you won’t see the stitches in your finished zippered coin purse.
Make Outside Pouch!
Next, take both pieces of Fabric B of the outside pouch and press the fusible interfacing to the wrong side of both pieces.
Then take one of the Fabric A outside pouch pieces and lay it right side up.
Next, lay the first zipper across the fabric with the pull on the right side of the fabric.
Then lay one of the Fabric B of the outside pouch pieces right side down on top of the zipper. Make sure the edges of both fabric pieces are even. Don’t worry that the zipper pull is past the fabric because it doesn’t matter at this stage. After you line up the fabric pin across the top of the outside pouch.
Next, using a zipper foot sew across the fabric sandwich making sure to get close to the zipper teeth. Then pull both fabric pieces down so both of the wrong sides touch each other and you see the zipper.
Next, take the other piece of Fabric A of the outside pouch and lay it right side up. Then place the zipper (that already has half of the pouch on it) at the top of the fabric piece. Both of the Fabric A pieces should be facing each other with right sides touching.
Next, lay the other Fabric B piece right side down on top of zipper. Make sure that all of the fabric pieces are lined up on the edges. Pin across top.

Then once again sew across the top using a zipper foot.
Next, open the fabric sandwich and open the zipper pull to the center of the outside pouch.
Then place both of the Fabric A pieces with right sides together and pin. Do the same thing for both of the Fabric B pieces.
Next, pin both sides of the zipper pushing the zipper teeth towards the Fabric B side.
Then sew down both long sides of the outside pouch. Don’t sew the short ends as that is what we will use to turn it. Once sewn trim the edges and using old scissors cut off the long pieces of the zipper making sure to NOT cut your seams.
Fold the Fabric B side down on top of the Fabric A side.
Next, push out all of the seams and press with iron. Look how cute!

Then all that is left to do to the outside pouch is stay stitch it to the main body piece on top of the outside pocket. You need to center it and sew just the BOTTOM of the outside pouch. Open your pouch and make sure that the lining is down and is caught in your stay stitch.
Make Main Body!
Then take your tab and pin it in the center of the front main body piece. Make sure to put the pin low so you don’t hit it with your sewing machine.
Now this process will seem very familiar because it’s almost the exact process we did with the outside pouch! So, take one of the Fabric B pieces of the main body and lay it right side up.
Then take your next zipper and lay it across the top of the Fabric B piece. Make sure the pull is on the right side of the fabric.
Next, take the main body piece that you just added the tab, outside pocket, and outside pouch to and lay it on top of zipper. Make sure that you have the direction of the main body piece going the right way. The side of the main body piece that has the tab is the edge that will be sewn to the zipper.
Then add a piece of batting to the top of your fabric sandwich.
Next, sew across the top using a zipper foot (this picture is of the back of the fabric sandwich). Then pull both fabric pieces and batting down so you see the zipper.

Then take the other Fabric B main body piece and lay it right side up.
Next, take the zipper and place it at the top of the fabric. Make sure that both Fabric B pieces are facing each other with right sides touching.
Then take the other Fabric A piece and lay it right side down on top of the zipper.
Next, add the other piece of batting to the top. Make sure that all of the fabric pieces are lined up on the sides or your pouch will come out wonky. You may need to fold down the outside pouch to help keep it out of the way. Sew across top with zipper foot.
Then fold back the fabric and unzip the zipper to the middle of the pouch. Trust me this is a SUPER important step unless you like seam ripping!
Next, pin both sides of Fabric A with right sides together. Do the same thing for Fabric B. Make sure to pin both sides of the zipper pushing the zipper teeth towards the Fabric A side.
Then sew around the entire zippered coin purse but leave a 2 inch turning hole in the bottom of the Fabric B side. Once sewn trim the seams and with old scissors cut off the excess zipper making sure to not cut your seams!

Now it’s time for turning! Using the turning hole gently pull out the zippered coin purse.
Next, once you have pressed out all of the seams you can close your turning hole in the lining. Press the opening with the iron and then sew really close to the edge. I like to sew it a couple of times.
Then you want to press the entire zippered coin purse really well.
Next, using the instructions on the package add the pearl snap to the tab.
Then place the other side of the pearl snap on the front of the outside pouch.
And……then all that is left to do is use this cutie pie!
Isn’t the double pocket zippered coin purse the perfect companion for day trips? This super cute coin purse will be handy in all of my future adventures! Also, as an added benefit this could be made and used as an amazing gift card holder for your next gift!
