I have had my share of ankle casts in the last couple of years. It’s funny (not ha ha funny) that the thing that irritated me the most about being in a cast was how cold my toes would get! I thought since I was in all of my casts during the extremely hot Texas summers that this wouldn’t be a problem. However, I learned REALLY quick that this wasn’t the case.
First, I tried to find a sock that would fit over my cast but nothing looked cute enough to go to work/church in and would stay on my cast. So, I decided that I would just crochet my own cast toe cover! Now for mine I just used a soft yarn that I had on hand but I wish I had used sock yarn because my cover didn’t come out as stretchy as I wanted it to be. So learn from my mistake and make an awesome cover for you or someone you love!

What to Do!
FYI! The outside of my cast measured 12 inches around. If your cast is smaller/bigger than mine you could easily modify the pattern to fit. You can just add or subtract how many stitches you add in the first chain to accommodate your cast size.
Round 1: Chain 10, 1 single crochet in 2nd chain from hook, 1 single crochet in each of next 7 chain, 3 single crochet in last chain.
Working into opposite side of chain, 1 single crochet in each of next 7 chain, 2 single crochet in last chain.
Then slipstitch to first single crochet.

Round 2: Chain 1, 1 single crochet into same stitch as last slipstitch, 1 single crochet in each of the next 8 single crochet, 3 single crochet in next single crochet, place marker on center single crochet, 1 single crochet in next 9 single crochet, 3 single crochet in next single crochet, place marker on center single crochet, then slipstitch to first single crochet.
Round 3: Chain 1, 1 single crochet in the same stitch as slipstitch, 1 single crochet in each single crochet until marker, 3 single crochet in marked single crochet, place marker on center single crochet.
Insert 1 single crochet in each single crochet until next marker. 3 single crochet in marked single crochet then place the marker on center single crochet.
Insert 1 single crochet in each single crochet to end of round, then slipstitch to first single crochet.

Repeat round 3 five more times.
Round 4: Chain 1, 1 single crochet in each single crochet to end of round. Then slipstitch to first single crochet. Repeat round until your cover is long enough, FYI, for my cover I did a total of 9 rounds.
Then fasten off and weave in your ends!
Now you can roam around town and have your toes all warm and toasty with your cast toe cover!

Thank you so much for this super easy pattern. It’s southeastern “fall” and I broke my ankle so this is very helpful!
I’m so sorry you broke your ankle! I’m glad this pattern will help your toes keep warm!
Thank for posting this pattern to help keep my toes warm.
You’re so welcome!
Great idea! I adjusted the number of stitches on my starting chain for my needs. Then I crocheted 1/8th inch elastic in the last row and tied it off. Makes it so it wont slip off my cast.
What a great idea! I’m sorry you have to be in a cast but I’m so happy that your toes will be toasty!
