Do you know what is just around the corner? Yep that’s right, Valentine’s Day! So, I’m sure you know by now that I LOVE any excuse to give a gift! And….what is a better gift than candy? The answer is absolutely nothing! However, giving just candy can be kind of boring for creatives such as ourselves.
So, I decided to design a super easy fabric candy bag that you can make out of scraps! This way you can give something sweet in something super cute and not have to buy any material (total win for everyone). And the best part is that this bag is really fast to make so you can whip up several in a very short time.

FYI!
All sewing is done with a 1/4 inch seam allowance.
Important Info!
When printing the sewing pattern PDF make sure to adjust the print settings. After you click on the print button in the PDF the printer dialog box will come up. On this screen you want to change the default zoom page size to be Actual Size. If you don’t change this setting then the pattern will print smaller then intended (so sad!).
What To Do!
To begin the easy fabric candy bag you need to download the free pattern from The Pattern Stash and cut it out.
Make Handles
Then take the two handle pieces and lay them right sides together. Sew both ends together making one continuous loop.
Next, press the seams of the handle loop you just made.
Then fold the handle loop in half with wrong sides together and press.
Next, open the handle and press the outside edges toward the center line that you just pressed.
Then fold your handle back in half and press really good.
Next, pin around entire handle loop.
Then sew around the handle loop using 1/8 inch seam allowance.
Next, sew the other side of the handle loop using 1/8 seam allowance like the other side.
Then press your completed handle!
Sew Bag
Now take your main body piece and lay it right side up. Measure 5 inches down from the top of the main body piece and put the seam of the handle loop at that mark. Then measure 3/4 inch from the right side of the main body piece and pin your first side of the handle down. Next, repeat for the next side of the handle.
Next, measure 1 inch down from the top of the main body piece and place a pin on the handle. Repeat this for other three sides of the handle.
Starting at one of the 1 inch needles sew across the handle then sew down the entire handle until you get to the next 1 inch needle on the other side. Pivot your machine needle and sew across and then back down the handle. Pretty much you are sewing a rectangle to secure the handle to the main body piece. Try to make sure you are sewing in your previous stitches on the handle so it’s not noticeable there are two sets of stitches. Repeat for the other side of the handle.
Then fold your bag in half pinning the main body piece right sides together. Sew down both sides of the bag.
Next, take your pinking shears and cut the raw edges. Make SURE you don’t cut through your stitches.
Then fold down 1/2 inch of the top raw edge of the bag and press.
Next, fold the top 1/2 inch down again and press really well.
Then sew around the entire bottom edge of the folded top.
Next, sew around the entire top of the folded band and you’re all done!
Then add the candy of your choice and give to someone special!
Now, wasn’t that super quick and easy? These cute bags are a fun way to give a little happy and use some of your fabric scraps which is always a total win!
