There is nothing I love more than having a project that I’m working on (yep, I’m a geek)! Although, when I have a cross-stitch project I’m sometimes less than enthusiastic about working on it. Why, you ask? Because cross-stitching is SO intricate and too many times I can’t find enough light around the house to be able to see the tiny stitches! There have been times when I have made major mistakes to a pattern just because I couldn’t clearly see my work (so sad). And, if you are anything like me you would rather not work on your project at all than struggle to see every stitch!
That is why I’m so excited that I found the Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 LED book light to illuminate my cross stitch! I don’t think I fully realized how dark my work space was until I turned this little light on! What a difference to finally be able to see each stitch clearly, I’m just so excited about this (I know I hide it well). Since I figured I can’t be the only one in the dark (pun intended), I thought I would give an honest review of the Mighty Bright book light to help you decide if this light is for you! Now to get started with this book light review let’s dive into the Pros of this super helpful light!

Pros
It Fits My Frame
Obviously, the reason for getting a book light was so I can clip it onto my cross-stitch frame. I have a Frank A. Edmunds lap & table scroll frame (that I love) but was worried that the light wouldn’t fit it. I looked everywhere online but couldn’t find how wide the clip on the light opened! Luckily, the light came in and it did fit! So, to help you avoid needless research my side of my frame is 3/4 inch wide and the clip fits easily over it with room to spare. The clip will easily open to a full 1 inch!
Super Bright
I was SO excited when I turned on this little light because it is so bright! Seriously, it is such a drastic improvement that I made my whole family come see. Think I’m joking? Then just look at the photos below!
Has Two Settings
When you click the on button, the light automatically turns on both light bulbs. However, if you find that you really don’t need your needlework to be so bright you can click the button again and it turns off just one bulb. This is a neat feature and one I didn’t expect. I love how you can dial down the brightness when you need just a little illumination.
Uses AAA Batteries
I can’t tell you how many times I have bought some gadget only to realize that it used special batteries! This is SO annoying and sometimes expensive depending on the battery size. I was so excited and relieved to see that the Mighty Light used regular AAA batteries (included in the package). Since these are common batteries, they are easily accessible and fairly inexpensive.
Can Stand On Its Own
This is just the coolest thing! Most times when you have a light that is intended to clip on it doesn’t stand on its own. So when I put the light on the table and it stood, I was pretty excited. This will come in handy in situations where there isn’t somewhere to clip the light to.
Flexible Neck
The light is set on a flexible neck that makes it super easy to get the light exactly where you want it! This is a huge bonus because you can manually adjust the light so it’s never in your way while stitching. I swear I must adjust it like a thousand times while sewing!
Inexpensive
The price point was a huge motivation for me to purchase the light. I got mine for only $15 on Amazon but at other retailers the light ranges in price from anywhere from $15 to $20. That is an amazing price when you consider that most craft lights begin at $30!
Cons
Lack of AC Adapter
The light doesn’t come with an AC adapter which I’m really disappointed about. Now, you can purchase an AC adapter separately but it cost $12.99! I find the price ridiculous considering I only spent $15 on the light! Needless to say, I will not be purchasing the AC adapter.
Clip Slips
This hasn’t happened a lot but I feel like it’s worth mentioning. A few times when using the light the clip slipped and the light moved up on the frame. Luckily, I saw that it had inched up and just readjusted it. Although the light never came completely off the frame, I wish the clip was a little tighter.
Can’t Replace Bulbs
The instructions say that the bulbs last up to 100,000 hours of illumination. Obviously, I don’t intend to blow through 100,000 hours of using the light right away (talk about binge crafting). However, I was disappointed that I couldn’t just swap out the bulbs when they do burn out. I guess this isn’t really a shock considering the price point of the light but I personally would rather replace bulbs than buy a new light.
Final Thoughts
So, to end this book light review I have to say that even with the few cons that I encountered with the Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 I would totally buy it again. This light is so bright that I can see every stitch that I make without causing eyestrain. I absolutely love using the light because it is extremely easy to attach to my cross-stitch frame and the flexible neck makes the light SO adjustable!
I hope that this Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 book light review helps you decide if this tiny light is the right option for you. If you do buy the Mighty Bright let me know in the comments if you are enjoying yours as much as I am!
