Texans are proud to be Texan. I’m talking like seriously, over the top PROUD to be Texan! If this is news to you then you obviously have never met a Texan before. I think this pride stems from the fact that Texas is the only state that was once a country! It’s totally true, Texas was a country for almost ten years before deciding to join the United States of America. Now, Texans show this pride in the form of clothing, tattoos, and jewelry in the shape of the state of Texas. As a matter of fact, I’m wearing a Texas pendant as I’m writing this (it’s from James Avery Craftsman and super cute)!
Now, when it comes to state pride there is nothing more Texan than the Texas state flag. So, when my mom told me that she wanted a Texas flag cross stitch for her birthday I thought it would be super easy to find a pattern. However, it turns out that I was WRONG! After looking for hours for a pattern online, I couldn’t find anything that came remotely close to what I wanted to make. So, I created my own Texas flag cross stitch pattern!
Now, I know that the traditional colors of the Texas flag are red, white, and blue since I have lived in Texas my whole life (lucky me!). However, my mom wanted the flag to look more antiqued so I used several shades of brown for the white portions. You could easily swap out the brown colors for white and gray floss if you would rather go the more traditional route.

What To Do!
You could totally start anywhere on the pattern but I wanted to start with the star! Once the star was completed I started on the blue portion of the flag.
The blue section of the flag went really fast because I only used two colors of blue. I totally forgot to take a picture until I had already started the red part!
Here is the flag after the red portion was completed! This is the part where I got super excited about the project!
Once I finished the top portion of the flag all that was left to do was to frame it!
This flag was huge hit with my mom! She absolutely loved it especially when I paired it with a rustic wood frame from Hobby Lobby.
