Mini Tissue Pack Cover Tutorial

Mini Tissue Pack Cover

I’m pretty sure that whoever invented mini tissue packets got a free pass to Heaven. That’s obviously not true, but they totally deserve it! I LOVE mini tissues that you can keep in your purse, backpack, or car. They’re pretty great BUT the package they come in is deeply flawed. If you keep the package in your purse for any length of time it starts to completely fall apart and the ink comes off onto your hands (yuck). An easy fix for this very frustrating problem is to make a super snazzy tissue cover. These are seriously super easy to make and can be made out of fabric scraps. I love my tissue cover and get SO many complements when I pull it out of my purse!

What You Need!

FYI!

All sewing is done with a 1/4 inch seam allowance.

Important Info!

When printing the sewing pattern PDF make sure to adjust the print settings. After you click on the print button in the PDF the printer dialog box will come up. On this screen you want to change the default zoom page size to be Actual Size. If you don’t change this setting then the pattern will print smaller then intended (so sad!).

What To Do!

To begin the mini tissue pack cover you need to download the free printable pattern file from The Pattern Stash and cut out the fabric. With your right sides facing each other pin the 5 1/2 inch side of the outside fabric to one of the 5 1/2 inch sides of your lining fabric. Sew using a straight stitch.

Pin Outside Piece To One Side Of Interior Piece

Sew the other 5 1/2 inch side of your outside fabric to the other 5 1/2 inch side of the lining fabric. This will give you a continuous circle of fabric.

Then turn the circle right side out.

Turn Fabric Right Side Out

Lay flat with outside fabric facing up and make sure that your lining fabric on the two sides are the same width. Press with iron.

After pressing, take the two sides and fold them over to the center of your cover. Make sure that they are even or your opening will be off to one side.

Fold The Two Sides To The Center Of Cover

Use the overcast stitch on your machine and overcast your seams.

Overcast Edges Of Tissue Pack Cover

Turn right side out and press. Try your pack of mini tissues to ensure they fit! If you like the way this looks then you’re finished! However, if you would like the mini tissue cover to have square corners like the tissue pack then keep on reading.

Finished Tissue Pack Cover Without Boxed Corners

So, boxing corners is easier than you may think. In order to box corners you lay down and center the seam. Press the material flat where you want the boxed edge to be and pin. Sew exactly where you pinned or draw a line with disappearing ink where the pin is in the picture. Repeat this for all four corners making sure you measure to ensure each corner is the same size. If you don’t then your corners will be wonky.

Then after boxing all corners, flip right side out and press! Add some mini tissues and you are good to go!

You’re all set to store your mini tissues or give your cute mini tissue cover as a gift!
