Pokémon Ball Beaded Ornament

Pokémon Ball DIY Christmas Tree Ornament

If you are a die-hard Pokémon fan please prepare yourself for what I’m about to say! I have never really understood why people made such a big deal about Pokémon. This could be because I was never really interested in watching the shows so was totally ignorant of what it was about. I mean I had seen commercials for the cartoon but beside the fact that the main character wore a baseball cap and would say “I choose you” I didn’t really know much about it. Don’t hate me but the honest truth is I wasn’t at all interested until the Pokémon Detective Pikachu movie came out. The commercial was so funny that my sister and I decided to see it at the theater even though we had never seen anything to do with Pokémon before.

The movie totally delivered and kept me laughing through the whole thing! The script did a great job of explaining the Pokémon world to people who have never seen the cartoon (a.k.a me). Plus, who couldn’t love Ryan Reynolds as Pikachu? Shortly after seeing the movie, I started thinking how cute would a beaded Pokémon ball Christmas ornament be. So, I quickly found a foam ball in my craft supplies and started playing around. The final result made me giggle like a little girl because it came out so cute and looks just like the Pokémon balls in the cartoon!

What You Need!

What To Do!

The first step to making the Pokémon ball Christmas ornament is to look at your foam ball and see if there is a line around the center of the ball. If so, this will be a huge help because you can follow it!

Middle Line on Foam Ball

Place a white sequin on the ball and add a seed bead to the needle and insert into the foam ball on one side of the middle line.

FYI! You will add a seed bead to each straight pin before you put it into the sequin. Just make sure to match the seed bead color to the sequin color!

Setup of Bead and Sequin

Layer the next sequin on top of the last one.

Layer Sequins Along Middle Line

Continue with the white sequins around the ball following the middle line.

Follow Middle Line to Create White Strip

Next, create the middle button. You do this by making a circle of black sequins. Then add the center white sequin making sure that it’s placed right on top of the center line of the ball. I have the red sequin there to measure where the black button should end.

Create Middle Black Button

Next, fill in the white sequins around the bottom of the black button.

I made the first red sequin strip and the black one at the same time so I could make sure that they were straight. First, I placed the red sequins down then placed the black sequins on top of the red and white sequins.

Add Black Strip to Middle of White and Red

This is what the ornament should look like after all of the first strips are complete.

Then fill in the red sequins around the black button.

Going in a circle add the remaining lines of the white sequins.

Here is the finished white sequin half.

Next, going in a circle add the remaining lines of the red sequins.

For the hanging ribbon I used pearlized pins to attach to the ornament. Of course, you could hot glue the ribbon down but I would still use some type of needles to reinforce it. Typically, for this type of ornament I only use needles to hold the ribbon.

Decorative Needles

Next, cut the ribbon 7 1/2 inches long and use the decorative pins to attach to the top of the ornament. And……you’re all done!

Add Hanging Ribbon

Obviously, you will notice my finished Pokémon ball Christmas ornament does not have a hanging ribbon. This is because I couldn’t stand to put it away with my Christmas ornaments! So, I took off the ribbon and display it beside my Batman Pop! doll.

Lastly, all you need to do is give this super cute ornament to someone special and tell them “I choose you”! On the other hand, maybe just keep it for yourself (it is pretty darn cute).
