Reusable Rice Heat Pack Tutorial

Reusable Rice Heat Pack

Let’s face it sometimes life can be a pain in the neck…….literally! I hate when I start to stress and I can feel it in my neck and shoulders. It makes EVERYTHING you need to do so much harder! A few years ago I discovered a rice heat pack that you can microwave to help bring relief to your stressed out muscles (my achy body wishes I had found this much earlier). My boss bought me one from a craft fair and I wore that thing out! Then I started to wonder how hard would it be to make. When you see how easy it is to sew a rice heat pack you will be making them for all your friends and family, not to mention a few for yourself!

When printing the sewing pattern PDF make sure to adjust the print settings. After you click on the print button in the PDF the printer dialog box will come up. On this screen you want to change the default zoom page size to be Actual Size. If you don’t change this setting then the pattern will print smaller then intended (so sad!).

FYI!

All sewing is done with a 1/4 inch seam allowance.

What To Do!

Fold your piece of fabric in half right sides together making the two 10 inch sides meet each other.

Sew around entire edge of the heat pack making sure to leave a turning hole. I like to sew around the bag twice to ensure that the seams are secure!

Make Sure To Leave A Turning Hole

Turn heat pack right side out making sure to push out corners.

Turn Right Side Out

Press the empty bag with the iron and fill with the white rice. For this size you can add the entire 16 ounce bag.

Iron down and pin the turning hole. Make sure all of the rice is at the other end of the bag and sew the end closed. Trust me you want to make super sure that the rice is nowhere near your sewing needle or it could break your needle!

And that is that! Did I not tell you how stinking easy these are to make? Now you can live a ache free life, well at least try!

Attention!

Know I that you are super smart and probably already know this but please be careful when microwaving your amazing new heat pack. These rice packs tend to get REALLY hot really quick! My advice, heat for 10-20 seconds then check to see if it’s warm enough then keep nuking for 10 second intervals.
