How To Make Custom DIY Magnets

How to Make Custom DIY Magnets

Have you ever seen a cute picture or tag and thought to yourself “It’s too cute to throw away”? I have this problem! I see cute things from church or tags from clothing and I hate to just toss them out! So I tend to keep these little items and they usually just end up in a pile in my desk drawer (so sad). Then one day a stroke of genius struck me! Why not turn all of these cute little nothings into magnets? So, I set out to make custom DIY magnets with all of my little things! I kick myself for not thinking of this earlier because this really is one of the easiest crafting projects I have ever done.

What You Need!

  • Cute Pieces of Paper, Pictures, or Tags From Clothing
  • Adhesive Magnetic Strips

TIP! If you don’t have any little things that you want to make into magnets don’t worry! You can easily find scrapbook cutouts that would be super cute as magnets!

I found this adhesive magnetic strips at Walmart for only $3 and it was enough to do all of the below magnets and I still have some left over!

What To Do!

The first thing you need to do is prepare the artwork that you want to make into custom DIY magnets. This Batman logo came off my Batman shirt so I cut off the hole where the tag was attached.

Measure the magnetic strips to see how many you need.

The cool thing about magnetic strips is they are precut!

Once you figure out how many strips you need you just have to bend it down to break it off.

Remove the backing from the strips and attach to your artwork.

Make sure you press firmly so the magnet doesn’t come off.

Press Magnet Across Back

Here is the back of all the magnets I made! I obviously cut the strips down for my smaller magnets.

There you have it! All you need to do now is stick your new custom magnets to anything magnetic.

Did I not say this is the easiest project you will ever do? This project would be a great one to do with kids since it’s so easy. Imagine how excited they would be to make magnets out of their own drawings!
