DIY Candy Bar Holder

DIY Candy Bar Holder

I absolutely LOVE giving candy as gifts. Candy makes the perfect gift for people that you know but you are not super close with! However, as much as I love giving candy I’m always trying to find ways to make my candy gift look a little bit more dressy. For one Christmas I gave Andes mints wrapped as snowmen and let me tell you they were a huge hit!

So, when one of the creatives that follow It’s So Corinney, Samantha, asked if I could make a tutorial for a wood candy bar holder I jumped at the idea! She told me that she had looked everywhere for an SVG for a simple wood DIY candy bar holder to cut on her Cricut Maker but couldn’t find anything (so sad). So, I began designing and I’m super excited how absolutely cute these turned out!

What You Need!

Cricut Supplies Used!

FYI!

The free candy bar holder SVG has three sizes intended for KitKat, Reese’s, and Hershey’s candy bars. Of course, if the candy bar you choose is around the same size as these candy bars then the holder will work for them as well. Each candy bar SVG includes the following sayings:

  • Happy Birthday
  • Thanks
  • Congrats
  • A Blank Holder

What To Do!

To begin the DIY candy bar holder you need to download the free SVG file from The Pattern Stash and upload it into Cricut Design Space. Need help doing this? Check out my post How To Upload SVG Files to Cricut Design Space for step-by-step instructions! Next, you need to tape the basswood to the cutting mat using painter’s tape.

Once you have the wood secured to the mat it’s time to cut! Since you are cutting wood you need to move all of the white star rollers on the bar in the Cricut all the way to the right. If you don’t the rollers will leave marks on your wood (trust me on this).

Tip! When you cut basswood Cricut automatically makes 14 passes over the design. This is because every pass it makes it cuts a little bit deeper. Because this is just the standard amount you need to watch your Cricut while it’s cutting to make sure that you need the Cricut to do the full 14 passes. Once you get to 9 or 10 pause the Cricut and see if your design has been cut all the way through. This will prevent the Cricut from cutting too deep and ruining your mat.

Tape Basswood To Cricut Strong Grip Mat

After all of the pieces have been cut it’s time to assemble! Take half of the small slats that you cut and glue them together using the basswood glue. Make sure that you have them evenly lined up or it will make your candy bar holder crooked when it’s put together.

Then glue the other half of the slats together.

Next, take both of the slat groups and glue one to the bottom edge of the back piece and one at the top edge. Again, make sure that they are perfectly lined up with the bottom and top edge or your candy bar holder will be wonky.

Then put glue on the two slat stacks and add the front piece of the candy bar holder. Make sure to line up the edges.

Depending on how quickly the glue is drying you may need to flip over the candy bar holder (with the words facing down) and add a small book to add pressure while it dries.

Put Under Book To Add Pressure After Gluing

Now, this is a totally optional step as you could easily leave your candy bar holder natural. However, if you want to jazz up your candy bar holder you could totally use acrylic paint once it’s assembled. Obviously, I did not do this!

Then you can add the candy bar and give this cute present to someone special!

So, what do you think? Isn’t this a super cute way of giving candy? I LOVE this project and it was so fun to design and make! Thanks again Samantha for the tutorial suggestion!
